Toy, Terrier, Gundog, Utility, Non-Sporting
Karen's involvement with pedigree dogs began back in 1971 when she purchased her first Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Her interaction with this breed continued over the coming years, being a founder member of the Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club in NZ, holding various offices at different times. For ten years, she was the NZ columnist for the International Great Pyrenees Review, while it was produced ex the USA. Although she no longer owns Pyreneans, she retains a very strong interest and is privileged and proud to be Vice Patron, and a Life Member of the Club. Some 15 or so years ago her breed involvement changed to Skye Terriers, breeding a small number of litters and campaigning a number of dogs to their Championship title. Her breed interest broadened further into the pedigree dog world, and she has now been a member of an All Breeds Club, Kumeu Kennel Assn, for 25+ years, and is now a life-member and President of this club, having spent some years as their Show Secretary. Karen has been a member of Auckland Show Dog Stewards Assn for some 20 years, two of those as Secretary, and the last eight as President. Previously she spent two years as President of the Terrier Club, and 4 years on the Committee of Auckland Non Sporting Dog Assn (Now Auckland Non Sporting & Utility Dog Assn) and after a couple of years as their Vice-Patron, is Patron. She also spent two years on the Fund Raising Committee for the NZKC Ardmore Grounds and around 2 years acting as the Upper North Island correspondent for an independent New Zealand dog magazine. In 1985 Karen joined the NZKC Judges Panel. Her involvement with the Judges Assn includes the last few years as Secretary and Show Secretary and Co-ordinator for the Judges Practical exams in Auckland. She has judged in the North and South Island of New Zealand and several states in Australia. In addition, she has been fortunate enough to have judged a number of Toy, Terrier, Utility and Non Sporting breeds in the USA.
