Robert attended his first dog show in 1964 with his family's American Cocker Spaniel. This began a life-long dedication to the world of purebred dogs. However, it was not until graduating from college in 1973 that he began exhibiting and breeding dogs in ernest. While maintaining a small hobby kennel, he exhibited American Cocker Spaniels and Irish Setters. He has finished over 40 champions. Robert's judging career began in 1992. Presently, he judges the Sporting and Toy groups, as well as some breeds in the Working and Non-Sporting groups, and Best in Show. Among the prestigious shows he has been honored to judge are both the Canadian and the U.S. American Cocker Spaniel National Specialty Shows as well as judging the Sporting Group at the 2009 Westminster K. C. show. Mr. Ennis is a life member of the American Spaniel Club and currently serves as the Chairman for the Judges' Education Committee.
