YAMADA, Mr. Burton J.

California, USA

AKC Working Group, Miniature Schnauzers, Misc Breeds

Ph: (909) 337-2347   Email: Click here

Burt Yamada started in dogs with the purchase of a Standard Schnauzer for his children in 1967. He had the top producing Standard Schnauzer bitch with 20 champion offspring, a record that stood for many years. With a very limited breeding program, Burt and his wife Ellen have owned or bred 75 champions, most of them owner-handled. Many of them were the top dogs in the breed, and National Specialty and All-Breed Best In Show winners. But the Yamadas are most proud of their 15 leading producers in the history of the Standard Schnauzer Club of America, with five of them reaching Hall of Fame status.
Professionally, Burt is the Director of Western Operations and Missile Systems for Northrup Grumman Mission Systems, heading a division that works on defence-related projects involving ICBM missiles for space and defence.
Burt first started judging in 1989 and has been doing the Working Group since 1995, and has judged all over the world, including in Japan, Taiwan and Costa Rica. In 2003, he judged the Working Group at Westminster and in 2004 he judged Best In Show. In his 35 years in dogs, Burt has been active in breed and all-breed clubs and has served as President and Director for many of them, including the Standard Schnauzer Club of America and the Standard Schnauzer Club of Southern California. He is currently president of the Orange Empire Dog Club and has served as Show Chairman for over 20 years.

YAP, Mr. Basilio C.

PHILIPPINES

Kennel Name: Canton

Toy Group Specialist

Web Site

 Ph: +632-806-9411   Email: Click here

Basilio has been a dog fancier since 1977. Having initially imported the best stock from England, USA, Japan and Taiwan, many of them well known champions, he popularized the Pomeranian breed in the Philippines under the Canton suffix. Canton Pomeranians continue to dominate the Philippine Pomeranian show ring with the most number of homebred champions titled on a yearly basis. His PH GR CH Canton Sylvestre Stallone was the first Philippine dog to be titled as an American Champion. Subsequently, he was honored by the American Pomeranian Club as the Number 2 Pomeranian breeder in the USA for the year 1999 for the Canton homebred Pomeranians that finished their American title for that year. His other homebred have attained other Asian and European championship titles.
Presently, he is very interested and challenged with the rarer colored Pomeranians, or what is termed as the exotic colors which generally are quite undeveloped colors. His white AM CH Canton White Fantasy won Winners Bitch over 46 females (standard and more developed colors) in a Pomeranian Specialty Show in Texas. His black AM CH / PH HOF Canton Gigolo, did a lot of winning both in the Philippine and USA ring including some US Group Wins, Philippine Best in Shows and that of the first Philippine Battle of the Champions. His blue Ph Ch Canton Blue Fever is one of the few blue Champion Pomeranians in the world. Soon, he hopes to be able to produce Chocolate, Lavander, Particolor, Merle and Brindle Pomeranian Champions. He has owned, shown and bred Pekingese, Toy Poodles, Maltese, Miniature Pinschers, Yorkshire Terriers, Shih Tzus, Shetland Sheepdogs, Dobermanns, German Shepherds, to name a few. He is a licensed TOY GROUP JUDGE.
Basilio believes Philippine born dogs could be better than imported dogs. For prospective breeders, his advice is to start with good stock from the right bloodlines. That would save so much time and years of breeding. Though their initial first pick may not be available, with perseverance and selective breeding, they should eventually be able to produce their own Best in Show dog.
