Nelson, NEW ZEALAND Kennel Name: Arawhiti

NZKC Groups 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Web Site Ph: +64 3 5267177   Email: Click here

Nigel has been involved in dog showing all his life, with his parents having bred Dachshunds, Cocker Spaniels, Pugs, Pomeranians, Pekingese and Chihuahua. He has always had a passion for the Gundog group. While at high school he handled a German Shorthaired Pointer who had been imported into New Zealand for hunting and his lines, this GSP won numerous group and in show awards.
Once Nigel left school he imported three American Cocker Spaniels, which he bred and exhibited until he moved from New Zealand to Australia in 1983. Also during this time he exhibited an English Springer Spaniel that had also been imported, this Springer was also a consistent winner.
In 1983 Nigel passed Group 3 (Gundogs) at Championship show level, he remembers at the time the examining judge asking him his age, he believes he was the youngest judge to hold a championship license in New Zealand.
In 1988 Nigel returned to New Zealand and once again exhibited an English Springer Spaniel and at the first show out the dog was awarded BIS. Nigel and his wife Robynne purchased two American Cockers and then two Afghans. With the arrival of their daughters they decided to move to a breed that required less grooming, and owned Pointers for 15 years. Once again they started exhibiting a Springer for a friend and this sealed it, they decided after all these years this was the breed for them. They have owned and bred Springers for the last five years, but given the past history it feels they have been involved with the breed for a lot longer. They are really dedicated to this breed and are proud of their achievements to date, and have much pleasure in introducing other people to Springers and even better if some of them catch the show bug.
