REWSTON, Mr. Tony

Somerset, U.K. Kennel Name: Sallust

Great Dane Breed Specialist Judge

  Ph: 0044 1934 712 477    Email: Click here

Tony first judged Great Danes at an All Breeds Open Show in 1974. Unlike some people who have taken that step, he thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As there is no self-progressive system in place in the UK that enables one to graduate to judging at Championship Show level, you have to wait a long time to take the next step. For him that came in 1988 when he judged at the Scottish Kennel Club show.
Since that first step back in 1974 he has judged in some capacity for all but two of the nine UK Breed Clubs, and for some more than once. He has also judged the breed in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. In addition he judged Danes in the USA for the first time in 1999. His last appointment in the USA was at the Lake Mathews All Breeds Show in April, 2003. Most recently in August 2005 he judged the Annual Specialty for the Western Great Dane Club of British Columbia, Canada. Judged in Sydney, Australia in 2005.

In his strong family tradition, John Rowles started his dog career at the age of sixteen when his father gave him a Smooth Fox Terrier bitch from which he built a kennel and show career of his own. This was the foundation of generations of Australian Champion Smooth Fox Terriers carrying the IVANHOE prefix that had previously been used by several generations of the Rowles family since late in the 19th Century.
Upon the death of his father, John assumed the SELWOR prefix, the kennel name under which he breeds today. He has exported Smooth and Wire Fox Terriers to New Zealand, several Asian Countries and USA, where they have achieved Champion status.
His canine involvement increased dramatically upon his move to Sydney in 1982 where he has successfully exhibited Smooth and Wire Fox Terriers, Whippets, Doberman's, Australian Cattle Dogs, St Bernard's and Lhasa Apso's. Since that time, he has successfully campaigned 7 Smooth Fox Terriers to the title of Australian Grand Champion, the latest being his American Import, “AM & AUST GRAND CH WEDIGIT BLACK TIE AFFAIR” who was the #1 Smooth Fox Terrier in Australia in 2004. More recently, in conjunction with his wife, John has imported an American Champion St Bernard who has already won several Best in Group awards. With a view to the future, following a judging stint to Ireland, he has purchased an Irish Champion Smooth Fox Terrier bitch.
John was first licensed to judge the Terrier Group at the age of eighteen years and has since joined another four of his family in achieving "All Breeds" status. He has judged in every State and Territory in Australia, as well as New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, India, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, China, Indonesia, USA, Canada, New Caledonia, South Africa, Russia, Norway, Finland and Ireland

RYAN, Mrs. Leah

New South Wales, AUSTRALIA Kennel Name: Vedamea

Working, Gundogs, Utility & Hound Groups

Web Site Ph: +61-2-4578-2267  Email: Click here

Leah's interest in breeding and the exhibition of pure-bred dogs is undoubtedly linked to her strong rural roots and spans over three decades, beginning in New Zealand with Shetland Sheepdogs - a breed that most suited her facilities at that time. Her foundation stock came from the famous Twoseas Kennels and she continued with those bloodlines until she left New Zealand to travel the world. On her return she  married & settled here in Sydney, Australia, where they began to breed Collie Roughs. For the past twenty years she and husband Barry, have travelled the world extensively, viewing Speciality and All Breed shows, & participating in various aspects of the canine fraternity.
In 1987 they imported the first Rough Collies into Australia from the United States of America for the purpose of breeding and exhibition, and they were also the first to produce Rough Collies from frozen semen in Australia. These investments proved to be extremely successful in establishing their renowned bloodline; namely "Vedamea" Rough Collies.
Leah has bred and sold numerous champions in both Conformation and Obedience: many who excel at both Speciality and All Breed shows, including prestigious awards such as Best Exhibit in Show, and Group and Royal Challenge Winners. She has written and published a thesis on Coat Colour Inheritance for the Collie Breed: served on numerous Committees for the Collie Club of New South Wales including the position as Honorary Club Secretary for a number of years, served as Secretary of the sub-committee set up to devise the Illustrated Collie Breed Standard, and she is currently Show Secretary for the Illawarra Collie & Shetland Sheepdog Club.
She wrote the history for the Illustrated Breed Standard publication; and also wrote, prepared and presented the lecture for Rough Collies at the Judges Training Scheme in 2002. Leah obtained her first judge's license in 1992, and currently is licensed to judge the Working (Herding), Gundog (Sporting), Utility (Working), and most recently the Hound Group. She has judged in most all states of Australia, and many times in both New Zealand, and the United States of America.
