Mel became involved with showing dogs when he was 21 and has continued for the last 40 years. His first dog was an Afghan Hound that he wanted for a pet but the only way he could buy him from the breeder was for the show ring.
He acquired several more Afghans over the next few years and showed Afghans for several people as he gained more experience. In that time he titled 5 Afghans and in recent times has helped to title several for friends including one Afghan (imported from Denmark) to his Grand Championship.
His next breed was American Cocker Spaniels followed by Airedale Terriers and for the last 20 years he has been owned by a large number of Pharaoh Hounds, one of which he and his wife imported from Sweden in partnership with several other people. She was a wonderful bitch (Sw Fnl and Aust. Ch Antefas Descheret). Dessi soon became an Australian Champion and had two litters.
In total Mel and his wife Mandy have titled some 15 Pharaohs of their own and at least 5 for other people. During this time he has also owned several Lakeland terriers, a Whippet, several Jack Russell Terriers and has been showing Smooth Fox Terriers.
Mel and Mandy, in conjunction with some very good friends have imported 2 puppy Pharaohs, a dog and a bitch, from Sweden and the bitch became Australia's Top Pharaoh Hound for 2007.
Over the years he has had a great deal of pleasure from teaching Junior Handlers Classes, most recently with Junior Handlers competing in the Pedigree Junior Handler competition, several of whom have won the State Final and have gone on to compete in the National finals.
Mel is currently the President of the Controlling Body (the North Australian Canine Association) of his State.

CKC All Breeds

Ph: (604) 556-0635  Email: Click here

Ann's childhood memories of dogs are Greyhounds and Whippets, used by her family for coursing, a popular pursuit in the North East of England.
In 1965 Ann was introduced to Dalmatians and then began an adventure in the world of DOGS. The first litter produced a litter brother and sister who both won their classes at Crufts, they went on to win puppy in show at all the Dalmatian Club championship shows and open shows as well as res cc’s.
In the early 70’s she returned to her childhood love of hounds and acquired a Beagle and then a Pharaoh Hound, with whom she had great success breeding the first Pharaoh to go Best In Show. 1974 saw a move to Canada bringing taking 4 Dalmatians. Their bloodlines were a combination of the renowned bloodlines Colonsay; Towpath; Phaeland and Brougham. These lines allowed them to quickly develop a small very successful kennel.
The successes have been numerous…. Top Dalmatian in Canada 1989 through 1997 all different dogs, also placing in the top ten non-sporting. A number of these dogs were multi BIS and Specialties winners. Regional and National BIS. All were owner breeder handled to these awards. At the same time successes in the USA which included 2 dogs in the top three, these dogs were also BIS and specialty winners in the US. During these years both the Dalmatians and Beagles were shown in Mexico and Bermuda gaining titles in all four countries as well as FCI titles. Volanta Vanity made breed history becoming Am. Can Mex Bda FCI and Ch of the Americas.
BIS Can Mex FCI Ch Pinzell De Montjuic also made breed history in Canada by producing more BIS winners than any other stud dog in the breed. 5 different dogs who were All breed BIS winners as well as National and Regional Specialty winners in Canada, the USA and Bermuda. His grandchildren are also Multi BIS and BISS. The Beagles had limited showing. However at the 1st Beagle Specialty DeMontjuic Drummer won Best Puppy in Show and the following year went to win Best in Specialty. Since starting to judge in 1994 Ann is no longer breeding but has once again returned to her childhood roots and is enjoying showing and lure coursing her young Whippet.
Ann has been fortunate to judge in England and Northern Ireland. Has judged across Canada and the USA. In 2000 she judged the Dalmatian Club of Australia’s National specialty. They bred Afghans for some 10 years before acquiring their first Kerry Blue and in that time showed successfully a Whippet, a Miniature Schnauzer, and more recently they have shown a Lhasa Apso and a couple of Wirehaired Fox Terriers. Their show career with Afghans was more than satisfactory in that they handled some 10 to their Australian Championship, 6 of these were Best in Show winners. Of the Afghans bred under their prefix "Pharno", there were 12 Champions including, 5 Best in Show winners. The breeding side of dog activities has a fascination of its own and thry were extremely pleased with their Kerry Blues (4 Best in Show Winners in the first litter!!!!), over the years they have produced many winners for others. Their Kerry Blue imports (2 English Champions, 1 Junior Warrant Winner and another dog from Ireland) have made a significant contribution to the popularity of the breed in Australia. One was National Dog of the year in 1979, which was no mean feat you may rest assured. Another won the Best Terrier in the Australian Bicentennial Top Dog Competition in 1988. In 1999, they imported a virtually unshown but high quality Kerry Blue dog from Ireland. They expect that he will help to continue their success both as breeders and as exhibitors.

Derek is the Treasurer of the Border Terrier Club of NSW and Dee is the Show Secretary & both are life members of that club. Derek is Senior Vice President and Dee, the Treasurer, of the Belconnen All Breeds Kennel Club which holds one of the most significant show weekends in our area.
