An AKC judge since 1979, Katie currently judges the Working Group, Herding Group, and a variety of Hounds and Toy breeds, Juniors, Miscellaneous, and Best in Show. A retired buyer of hydraulics and electronics for Ingersoll Rand, Katie, a dog breeder since 1965, enters poetry competition, enjoys painting in watercolor, and is a freelance writer for a variety of magazines and the local newspaper.
Twice privileged to judge the American Shetland Sheepdog Nationals, Katie judged the Australian Shepherd Nationals, the Border Collie Nationals, the Australian Cattle Dog Nationals,  the Polish Lowland Sheepdog Nationals, and 20 breed specific Specialties.
Active in Junior Handling, Conformation, and Performance in both dog and horses as a family, Katie and her husband Paul are breeders of both on a limited basis. Active in the dog conformation ring, an occasional venture into agility and obedience in early years made them realize the importance of form and function. They show on a limited basis today. Their goal is to breed both horses and dogs capable of performing their duties as originally intended. The breed standard is their blueprint. Their Australian Cattle Dog and Whippet achieved Top 10 status in the 80’s.
Active 4-H leaders for 15 years, their gained knowledge transferred easily to the world of dogs. Owning a variety of breeds, they pursue specific goals in all breeds they are affiliated with.  Writing a mentoring program in 1970, Katie’s Basic Dog 101 seminars are in demand. Presented in a positive, fun manner, the seminar is non-breed specific and addresses usable guidelines for analyzing a variety of breed standards. This knowledge assists owners/breeders in identifying quality, capable puppies at a young age. The program addresses a judge’s expectations, grooming, ethics, dress, ring etiquette and a variety of specific breed health issues.
An active member of the Mattoon Kennel Club and breed specific organizations, Katie is an officer in the CADAC Dog club and assists in public awareness and education. Offering Bite Prevention for school children as well as Puppy Socialization and Basic Obedience, Katie’s Conformation class instruction resulted in Kristen Heiden being chosen Eukunuba’s Top Junior Handler two years in a row. Active in club activities, Katie is the current chair for “Know Your Breed” seminars at a local level.
Katie and Paul, married 50 years, are retired and live on Indian Creek Farms near Lerna, Il. Paul is an avid hunter and fisherman. Carole was born in England and moved to Austria in 1967 where she was head girl in Austria's top riding stables. She left to marry and work for IBM and turned her overpowering animal interests to dogs. Carole worked for IBM over 36 years before retiring in 2007. She started breeding and showing in 1974 with Yorkshire Terriers and made up her first champion with them, that was before her first Griffon adopted me. Since then she has successfully bred and shown Griffons (Gaystock, Buka, Beauview) and Maltese (Mannsown, she owned the litter brother to the 2 x BOB Crufts winner), also Bichon Frise (from the Tresilva kennel). Having discovered the charms of the Havanese she gave up her Maltese and since then has enjoyed everything that this breed brings. Many lines in Europe from all these breeds have Ilkley Moor somewhere in the past. Today Carole's interest lies in the Havanese,  Griffons and Bolognese breeds.
She passed her judging examination in 1994 and has now judged all over Europe. She was on the committee of the Austria Toy Dog Club for many years. She has learnt to speak a certain amount of German, albeit with local accent. In 2006 they founded their own Griffons, Lowchen and Havanese Club of Austria (within the Austrian Kennel Club) and as President and Breed Adviser, Carole's time, in her retirement, is almost fully occupied. Some time must however be available for her other interest, the ballet school where her daughter trains. Carole sews all the costumes and ensure at performances that no one goes naked on the stage!

Neil started in the dog world by showing a German Shepherd dog in Obedience in 1966. Shortly thereafter he decided to show in confirmation and began to breed and show Old English Sheepdogs. He has owned and bred Lhasa Apso’s from 1974 – 2008. No longer breeding or showing the Lhasa Apsos’ he still has the Shih Tzu breed in the TruBlu kennel.
The TruBlu kennel has been the dominant Lhasa Apso kennel in Canada from 1977 to present, achieving over 60 Best In Shows. Even though Neil is no longer breeding or showing the Lhasa Apso he has many co-owned dogs still in the ring today. He has also campaigned and handled Great Danes, Shih Tzu’s, Pekingese and Whippets.
Neil is a retired fire-fighter serving on the City of Calgary Fire Department for 32 years. Upon his retirement in 1999 he became an all breeds judge. He has judged in many countries such as: Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Columbia, Brazil, Sweden and Norway.

GROSSO, Mrs. Kathy

California, USA

 Kennel Name:

AKC Terriers, Non-Sporting & Toy Groups

Ph: (951) 845-0184     Email: Click here

Kathy and her husband Vince, began showing Westies in 1965. Starting with Merryhart Rippin Rory, a son of Ch. Elfinbrook Simon, who had been BIS at Westminster in 1962. In 1975, they added Smooth Fox Terriers, finishing about ten, and breeding approximately six litters. Together, Kathy and Vince finished about thirty dogs (in top California competition) including an owner-handled California multiple group winner Ch. Fitzgerald of Winsom, a Westie. In addition to Westies and Smooths, Kathy and Vince have owned several Lhasa’s, a German Shepherd, a Siberian Husky and the current mistress of the house Chloe, a Doberman. A recent addition to the household is Delaney, their second Boston Terrier who is currently being exhibited.
Kathy’s club activities have involved several all-breed clubs in which she has served as President and Show Chairmen as well as in other club offices. At this time, the major focus of her energy is the Kennel Club of Palm Springs. Kathy has also belonged to numerous breed clubs through the years and still holds active membership in the West Highland White Terrier Club of America. As a member of the California Inland Empire Dog Judges Association, she attends as many educational workshops as possible, usually at least one a month (plus yearly judges’ institutes). She is also the Program Coordinator for the CIEDJA.
Kathy began judging in 1986 and is now AKC approved for the Terrier Group, Non Sporting Group, Toy Group, Misc., Jr. Showmanship and BIS. She believes that her experience as a career and employment coordinator in a federally funded job training agency comes in handy in coping with some of the situations that judges occasionally face. She concedes that it was just as difficult to tell a job seeker that he/she was responsible for losing a job as it is to tell an inquiring exhibitor that his/her dog just wasn’t up to the quality of the other exhibits that day. She believes that tact is absolutely essential in both situations. Since retiring, she has concentrated on The Kennel Club of Palm Springs and expanding her overall knowledge in the sport of dogs.

GROSSO, Mr. Vincent T.

California, USA

 Kennel Name:

AKC Terriers, Non-Sporting & Toy Groups

Ph: (951) 845-0184     Email: Click here

Vince began showing dogs in 1965. Starting with a West Highland White Terrier, "beginners’ luck" held and Rory finished quickly despite totally novice handling, grooming, training and those hard-to-find majors. Vince and his wife were by then, of course, completely hooked. In 1975, they added Smooth Fox Terriers, which they both thoroughly enjoyed not grooming (almost). They finished 30+ dogs including an owner-handled multiple group winner, Ch. Fitzgerald of Winsom, shown in top California competition.
Vince started judging in 1979 and is now approved for all Terriers, Non-Sporting and Working breeds, Misc. Class, Jr. Showmanship and Best in Show. In addition to Westies and Smooths, he and his wife have owned several Lhasa’s, a German Shepherd, a Siberian Husky and the current mistress of the house, Chloe, a Doberman. As a teenager, he had owned a well-bred Doberman show prospect whose temperament did not fit the show ring. A recent addition to the household is Delaney, their second Boston Terrier.
Vince’s club activities have involved several all-breed clubs in which he has served as President and Show Chairman as well as other club offices. At this time, the major focus of his energies is the Kennel Club of Palm Springs. Vince has also belonged to numerous breed clubs through the years and still holds an active membership in the West Highland White Terrier Club of America. As a member of the California Inland Empire Dog Judges Association, he attends as many educational workshops as possible, usually one a month, in addition to numerous judges institutes.
